Ambrosia (known colloquially as "ambro") is a drug made from a peculiar's second soul. It was accidentally created by Myron Bentham as a byproduct of an experiment with Abraham Portman, but later used by the wights to maintain control over the peculiars in Devil's Acre. Most of the stock was destroyed by the end of Library of Souls.
Usage[]
Ambrosia is taken by pouring into a person's eyes, which lets out a powerful, scorching-hot light (which fades out within a few seconds). Once the light wears off, the peculiar is more powerful for a few minutes. This makes the drug extremely popular for bloodsporting, because the boost is just long enough to allow the peculiar enough power for one match. Once the drug wears off, it leaves the user drained and temporarily blinded, and the user would ideally need to rest in a dark room in order to recover. Ambro addicts hide and walk in public with bags on their heads.
Effects[]
Although the drug will temporarily improve the power of the user's peculiarity, it will be permanently weakened over time (unless the person takes another dosage of ambrosia, in which case it would come back temporarily). Due to the weakened power outside of the initial boost, many who take it end up being addicted. Serious addicts develop severely disfigured faces, because the hot rays from their eyes will melt their skin. Many addicts put their heads in bags, with two holes for the eyes to see through.
