The Peculiar Children Wiki

Angelica Minervis[1] is a female peculiar and a leader of a peculiar gang in New York City.

History[]

A Map of Days[]

She first appears after Frankie reaches out to the most notorious peculiar gangs of New York to auction off Jacob Portman and his friends, and argues with Wreck Donovan about Dogface, who hasn't arrived at the moment. Once Dogface arrives and nearly gets into a fight with Wreck, she tells them to stop with a placid face, though her storm cloud is dense and swirling. She and the other two clan leaders begin examining Jacob and his friends. Angelica states that she needs, as ever, competent weatherfolk. She is unconcerned when Emma breaks free of Frankie's telekinetic grip and threatens to burn Frankie, as Angelica considers Frankie to be a pain. She and Dogface agree that things just got interesting, before Wreck proposes that the three split the group between them. Angelica tells Emma that she thinks Emma is very talented and asks her to come with her, due to Angelica's gang being elementals.

After Jacob and his friends are all free, Angelica infers that the group couldn't be from around New York due to the fact that their powerful peculiarities would make it so everyone knew their names. Though she, Wreck and Dogface all have a bit of grudging respect for the group, they are still wary, and Angelica's cloud starts quietly storming.

Upon learning that Noor is an uncontacted peculiar, she realizes that the situation is bad, as Jacob and his friends have committed the crime of inducing an uncontacted peculiar to leave the country. Dogface says that they need to turn the group in for "kidnapping" Noor, but Angelica does not seem inclined to do so, saying that she likes them more and more. Dogface thinks she must be joking, as their lives are worth nothing if Leo Burnham hears that they didn't turn the group in. After reporting the group to Leo, the three leaders are brought to him as well, though Dogface escapes before they reach their destination. Angelica and Wreck are both intimidated by Leo, with even Angelica's cloud acting like it is scared, and the two deny that they were partaking in an illegal auction.

The Desolations of Devil's Acre[]

Angelica and the other gang leaders come to Devil's Acre in place of Leo Burnham in order to observe the ymbrynes and the European peculiars' way of life, and are attending the all-Acre assembly when they meet Jacob and his friends again. She is visibly repulsed by the loop, looking relieved when she finally expresses it out loud. The clan leaders and the children briefly argue about whose way of life is superior, with the leaders mocking the children for being coddled by the ymbrynes.

She and the other two leaders, along with a gang of Untouchables, later assist some Acre peculiars in fortifying the entrance of the peculiar ministries building. Angelica uses her cloud to try and blow a squall of bones away from the workers.

She, Wreck, and Dogface line up to join the Devil's Acre Defense Corps, shrugging it off as self-interest when Jacob looks surprised to see them.

Like Dogface and Wreck, Angelica did not leave with Parkins and LaMothe after they call off their deal with the ymbrynes. While the Devil's Acre peculiars are under siege in Bentham's house, Rafael recruits Angelica to be his assistant. She obtains loop freedom along with the Acre's other loop trapped peculiars after Caul's death.

Description[]

Appearance[]

Angelica is a young-looking girl with hair coiffed in complicated, iron curls that cascade down her back. Her face is milky-white, smooth, and very cold. Her mouth is turned down at the corners as if she's chewing something or talking to herself silently. A cloud of black smoke hovers around her head and shoulders, churning slowly but never dissipating. It narrows into a funnel shape that seems to emanate from her right ear. She wears a white dress tied with a huge silk bow.

Peculiarity[]

Angelica has a storm cloud coming out of her ear that she can make generate rain, snow or hail, with it reflecting her emotions to some degree.[2] She is an elemental peculiar and is a combination of zephyr, rainmaker, and glaciator.[1]

Trivia[]

  • In contrast to Wreck Donovan, Angelica loves the camera, and the photo of her in the book became famous among American peculiars- framed and hung with pride by some, and used for target practice or as a wanted poster by others.[2]
  • She is mentioned in Miss Peregrine's Museum of Wonders as an edge case elemental. Not including Hollow City's Peculiar Personae section, she is the third character to have the same photo appear twice in the series, after V and Althea Grimmelwald.
