The Peculiar Children Wiki
While these are some of the most spectacular and attention-grabbing peculiar talents, their prevalence is overstated. Perhaps one out of ten can claim some elemental ability, and those do not always fall neatly into categories.

Elementals are peculiars who have peculiarities connected to the elements, including the weather.

They are most commonly assumed to be those that can control one specific element, but other elemental peculiars' abilities fall into multiple subcategories or are simply related to elements and can't be classified as something else.

Known Elementals[]

Earthworkers[]

Some earthworkers manipulate the earth itself, which can also be sand, and others manipulate things that grow in it: plants. Some earthworkers are able to excavate large holes in the ground with the flick of their wrist, or ride waves of sand across a landscape of dunes.

  • Ellery
  • Desdemona Frump (daisies grew behind her wherever she walked)
  • Girl who manipulated mud (edge case, is both earth and water)
  • Boy rooted to the earth by arterial roots (edge case, does not "work" the earth but rather the opposite)

Seedsprouts[]

Seedsprouts are a subcategory within earthworkers. They can control plants with their hands and make seeds grow instantly.

Fire-starters / Fire related[]

Fire-starters, or "sparks," typically refers to peculiars who can make fire from some part of their body. Other peculiars have abilities related to fire, but cannot produce it.

Glaciators[]

Glaciators have peculiarities related to ice, such as cryokinesis. It is an old rule of thumb for ymbrynes to never place a glaciator and a fire-starter in a loop together, as they tend be opposite in not only their abilities but also their personalities, causing them to clash to the point of mutual exhaustion.[1]

Galvanizers[]

Galvanizers are peculiars that have peculiarities related to electricity. The most gifted can call lightning down from the skies.

  • Slemina Gray
  • Unnamed Californio boy (electricity/lightning manipulation)

Water-tamers/Rainmakers[]

Water-tamers have peculiarities related to water such as summoning waves and currents, guiding whole schools of fish into nets, speed sailing ships through calm and windless conditions, and steer sailors away from dangerois rocks or directly towards them. Water-tamers have long found careers in the seagoing trades. Rain-makers are so revered by farmers that some have lived openly in small agarian communities among normals for years, protected as if they were sacred talismans.

  • Fergus
  • Roy Chao
  • Yeth-faru (water-flooding)
  • Latoya Smith (edge case: could make it rain grasshoppers)

Light Shapers[]

Light shapers are considered cousins to elementals. Though their ability mainly consists of taking light from the air with their hands and redirecting it, some light-shapers, called phosphagists or "light-eaters," can "eat" light, storing it in their bodies for later use.

Zephyrs[]

Zephyrs' abilities are related to air, including clouds. Sub-talents range from the manipulation of wind to levitation. Zephyrs are variously known as cloud-bankers, air-walkers, gusters, and cumulae.
