The Peculiar Children Wiki

The Flamingo Manor is a motel that serves as a loop. Jacob and his friends take residence in the loop in A Map of Days.

A Map of Days[]

Paul Hemsley takes Jacob, Emma, Bronwyn, Millard and Enoch to the loop after their car breaks down, and the children see that some of the neon letters on the sign have burned out, making it read Flaming Man, which is where they were instructed to deliver H's package. It is likely the "looped accomodations" near Mermaid Fantasyland mentioned in Peculiar Planet.

Description[]

The outside of the motel has a flying V-roof, a kidney shaped pool, and detached bungalows, and "had probably been the height of cool in about 1955," though it is now more akin to an abandoned building. The roof is patched with tarps, the courtyard filled with overgrown trees, junk cars rusting in the parking lot, and the pool empty except for a few inches of green water. Jacob also sees a long, loaf-shaped thing in the pool that might be an alligator.

Inside the loop, the courtyard is neat, paved, and ringed by pink, almost new motel rooms. The roof is tarpless and the pool is filled with water. The entrance is built to accomodate cars, with the parking lot now holding cars from the 50s and 60s in terrific shape. The manager is Miss Billie, a demi-ymbryne, and the loop clock is rewound every few weeks by loop-keeper Rex Posthlewaite.
