Grimbears

Grimbears are peculiar bears. They are the preferred companion of ymbrynes in Russia and Finland, and grimbear-taming is an old and respected art among peculiars there. Miss Hawksbill states that not everyone thinks as highly of grims as ymbrynes do.

Description

Naturally very independent, adult grimbears are ten feet tall and terrifying. They have warm fur and brown eyes. Their tongues are wet and rough and they have hot, stinking breath.

When tamed, grims are protective and loyal to their owners and friendly to those that their master trusts. They can also stand and walk on their hind legs.

• Jacques: Jacques is the grimbear of Miss Tern, whose loop entrance he guards.
• Fanny: Fanny is a grimbear who seems to answer to Miss Avocet. He appears lying on the floor so that Jacob mistakes him for a rug before MIss Avocet tells him to make room. She tells Noor that Fanny is as tame as an emu-raffe, but acts like he owns the place.
