Mary Seacole was an ymbryne. Apart from mainly being a nurse, she was also a businesswoman and author. She is one of the real life historical figures featured in Miss Peregrine's Museum of Wonders.
Biography[]
Seacole was born in 1805. She was a skilled nurse and a hero of the Crimean War, with her hygienic methods comparable to and predating those of Florence Nightingale.
Although people who knew she was peculiar assumed her peculiarity to be a bone-mender, Seacole was actually an ymbryne. She ran many loop boarding houses in her travels, and during the Crimean War cared for both peculiar children in her loop and wounded soldiers outside it. Her ambition, industry and kindness would inspire a young generation of ymbrynes.
