Nim is a male peculiar with an unknown peculiarity. He is Myron Bentham's former manservant.
History[]
Library of Souls[]
Nim is in the room when Jacob Portman wakes up while recovering from injuries. He is ordered by the doctor to go find Bentham.
Later on, he prepares tea for Bentham, Jacob, and Emma. He hovers nearby while the three discuss the Library of Souls, and is told to sit by Bentham if he wants to stay and listen. He gets offended when Jacob accuses Bentham of being a wight, and angrily turns his back when Jacob and Emma check Bentham's eyes for fakery. When the conversation turns to the hollowgasts, Nim adds that he once saw one eat a car (which he was inside, but got away as the steering column got stuck in the hollow's throat).
As Jacob and Emma are preparing to go to the Wights' Fortress, Nim suddenly arrives and announces that a messenger bird has arrived for Jacob. When the bird (sent by Caul and really a bomb), explodes, PT protects Nim, Bentham, Jacob and Emma, causing PT to suffer a burned back. Nim runs off to wake Mother Dust in order to treat the bear.
After Caul's first defeat, Nim struggles with Bentham's betrayal, meandering around the house in a daze.
The Conference of the Birds[]
Millard brings Jacob and his friends to Bentham's secret office, where Nim waits nervously in a corner as the others come in. He and the wights both knew about the office, though the ymbrynes did not. Nim tells the peculiars that Bentham kept all his most sensitive papers and books there, and it was Nim's job to clean the room and keep it all organized.
Nim states that Bentham was forced by Caul to find a way to escape a collapsed loop. Bentham found a way, but lied to Caul about it, and gave two copies of the secret formula to Nim to hide. Though Nim didn't do a bad job of hiding them, the wights stole one of the formulas nonetheless when they broke out of the Devil's Acre prison. However, they didn't take the other copy, which was written on the back of a grocery list, and Nim brings it out to show Miss Peregrine. While the group is going over the ingredients in the formula, he embarrassedly says that the fourth ingredient, death beetles of the Underground Hittites, had been stolen by the wights from Bentham's collection.
The Desolations of Devil's Acre[]
Nim is in Bentham's peculiar museum as Jacob and his friends pass through to get to Miss Peregrine's office. He defends the place after Noor Pradesh calls the things inside "crap," before chasing the group onward with a broom.
As the Acre peculiars remain under siege in Bentham's house by Caul, Jacob wanders it, pulled by an unknown force. Nim steps into his path and is nearly attacked by Jacob. Nim tells Jacob that Bentham would like to speak to him, and takes Jacob to the washroom, where Bentham can be seen parasitically attached to Caul. Nim instructs Jacob to put his ear against the glass to hear Bentham. Bentham tells Nim to leave, and Nim complies.
Description[]
Appearance[]
Jacob's first impression of Nim is that he is odd-looking and composed of halves. Half of his hair is slicked down, while the other half is cowlicked. He has a scraggly beard on one half of his face, but the other half is clean shaven. The style of his clothes are half modern, half archaic.
Personality[]
Relationships[]
Myron Bentham[]
He is Myron Bentham's closest assistant. He is very protective of and loyal to Myron, shown at the end of Library of Souls when he had a very difficult time coming to terms with Myron's betrayal.
