The Priest Hole is a pub and inn located on Cairnholm, Wales. The only telephone on Cairnholm island is located inside.
History[]
Pre-modern times[]
According to Kev, at a time when Catholics were persecuted, clergyfolk would come seek refuge in a hole in the floor of the pub, called "priest holes."
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children[]
Kev helps run the pub. There are rooms located on the second floor mainly used for guests. Jacob and his father rent a room there while they stay in Cairnholm. When a drunk answers the phone, it's called "The Piss Hole".
Description[]
The weathered sign has "WINES, ALES SPIRITS," "Fine Food," and "Rooms to Let" written on it, with the latter having its s struck out, leaving only the singular Room.
Inside, the pub is low-ceilinged. It has tiny leaded windows that let in just enough light to find the beer tap without tripping on the way, and worn and wobbling tables that look like they might be more useful as firewood. A narrow staircase leads up to a suite of rooms. The pub has the only phone box on the island.
There are two bedrooms and a room containing a table, a moth-eaten sofa, and a hotplate. There is also a bathroom and a portable toilet in the alley out back.
