A Map of Days[]
Near the end of the book, when Jacob Portman is brought back to Devil's Acre, his injuries are tended to by Rafael, who works out of a tumbledown house on Little Stabbing Street.
The Conference of the Birds[]
Rafael and an assistant are seen walking alongside two men carrying a stretcher after the wights kill Melina Manon during their escape from the Devil's Acre jail. After the Hopewell battle, he treats Fiona Frauenfeld's injuries.
The Desolations of Devil's Acre[]
Rafael is the only bone mender who survives the battle of Devil's Acre. After the defeat of Caul's army and the peculiars' retreat to Bentham's house, he treats the injured, starting with Enoch O'Connor.
Peculiarity[]
As a bone mender, Rafael has the ability to heal normal and peculiar injuries and illnesses. He is famous for his unusually potent tinctures and poultices, which have cured several peculiar diseases previously thought fatal, such as brain-cranny worms and Siberian semi-sentient psoriasis.[1]
