Sebbie Mayfield is a female peculiar who is one of the seven prophesized light-eaters meant to emancipate peculiardom. Along with being able to project her light, she is also able to project her voice.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Sebbie spent many years hiding in caves, due to her dislike of daylight. Because she only ventured out at night, villagers assumed she was a vampire and persecuted her. This drove her deeper into the caves, where she ate bats and moss. She also used eat gifts of food from benevolent villagers, but she stopped after one tried to poison her.

It was then that Sebbie began developing her peculiarity. She projected her voice and created fiery phantasms to scare people away, and word of this soon reached an ymbryne, Miss Ptarmigan, who took her in to a loop on the isle of St. Helena.

The Desolations of Devil's Acre[]

After Sophie's call, Sebbie was dropped off at Miss Tern's loop by Miss Ptarmigan. There, Sebbie met Julius Purcell and Hadi Akhtar, two other light eaters. When Jacob, Noor, Emma, Bronwyn, Horace and Enoch arrive a few days later. Sebbie creates a woman of light to test Noor.

During the battle with Caul, she runs to confront him by herself before she can be stopped. Jacob sends three hollows to help her, so that Sebbie is able to take Caul's light. However, she then tips and falls into the hole beneath Caul, and does not emerge.

Appearance[]

Sebbie wears a white flapper dress and a dour expression. She speaks with an Eastern European accent and sometimes swipes light away from in front of her face to shield her eyes, which are sensitive to brightness.

Peculiarity[]

Sebbie is a light-eater, and can also project her light and voice. She can steal light from a distance and create fiery phantasms.
