The Peculiar Children Wiki

The second soul is something all peculiars have, and it is what gives them their peculiarities. The second soul also allows peculiars to interact with loops without being injured.

History[]

Origins[]

It's unknown where exactly where they come from, but it's highly likely they originate from the Library of Souls. Librarians, a powerful race of peculiars, would collect them in the library to protect them from being stolen by others. According to legend, a peculiar checks out a soul when they are born and returns it to the library upon death.

Hollow City[]

A peculiar's sole is the door to his soul.

–Old peculiar saying

Miss Wren found three peculiars who had been kidnapped years before and experimented on by the wights abandoned in a hospital, and brought them to the Peculiar Archives building in the Carnival Tourist loop. The peculiars had lost their peculiarities and their minds. Millard Nullings deduces that they had had their second souls removed through the soles of their feet, and that the souls had been fed to hollowgasts, enabling the hollows to enter loops. With their second souls gone, the peculiars had had the same reaction that normals do entering a loop: becoming "drooling, catatonic vegetables."[1]

Description[]

They are blue in color when they are stuck in liquid form in soul jars, and are invisible to most. In light form, they can be handled by light shapers: Noor Pradesh is able to remove the soul Jacob Portman ingested before it fully set into him,[2] though it is unknown if this takes a light-eater in particular rather than any light-shaper.
