The Peculiar Children Wiki

Soul jars were stone jars that used to contain the second souls of every peculiar that ever lived in the Library of Souls. The soul jars were stored in small coves in the walls.

Description[]

Most of the jars, particularly near the outside of the library, are simple and unadorned, made of reddish stone and corked. They are oval-topped and flat on the bottom, large enough to hold a bottle or a candle, and cylindrical in shape with a tapered neck. The labels are spidery and handwritten in Old Peculiar.

The heart of the library contains a few large and ornate jars as well as small, plain jars. The ornate ones are hourglass shaped, with double handles and gem-toned wings painted on their surfaces; it seemed clear they contained the souls of powerful and important (or self-important) peculiars.

The jars themselves cannot be seen or touched by non-librarians; however, when they are smashed, their contents, a blue glowing liquid, can be interacted with by anyone, though it is extremely freezing to the touch.
