The Peculiar Children Wiki

The Bone Brothers[1] are male peculiars with the peculiarity of echolocation and sonic screams. They are both mentally bonded to each other. The Bone Brothers are the last two, along with Melina Manon, to survive in Miss Thrush's loop.

The older brother is named Joel-and-Peter and the younger brother is called Peter-and-Joel, though it's unknown which is Peter and which is Joel. They are blind, using echolocation to see instead, and do not like being separated.

Joel-and-Peter[]

Joel-and-Peter is the elder brother, and is the stronger of the two physically, but mentally, they are the same.

Peter-and-Joel[]

Peter-and-Joel is the younger brother. He is the one that links arms while Joel-and-Peter keeps his arm straight suggesting he is a little more cowardly than his older brother.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

The brothers were taken in by Millicent Thrush and lived in her London loop. It's unknown how long they remained there.

In 2011, five peculiars looking for safety from wights would arrive at Miss Thrush's London loop, including A. F. Crumbley. Sometime afterwards, wights would raid the loop, taking Miss Thrush and most of her wards, but the brothers escaped by running into the catacombs that were near the entrance of the loop.

Hollow City[]

Three days after Miss Thrush and most of her wards were taken, Jacob Portman, Emma Bloom, and Horace Somnusson would arrive at the loop to look for Miss Thrush. They find the Bone Brothers in the catacombs, but the pair refuse to go further into the loop, still fearing hollows. Jacob, Emma, and Horace venture in themselves and manage to find and convince Melina Manon to come with them, and she reunites with the brothers after coming out of the house.

As a pair of hollows are following behind the children and they cannot use light in order to avoid drawing the hollows' attention, the brothers use their abilities to guide the group out of the loop. Once they escape, they take shelter in Sam and Esme's house. When a bomb explodes, they sense a layer of hard concrete and pull Melina behind it, saving her.

The group makes their way to the Carnival Tourist Loop and runs into several peculiars in the carnival part of the loop, including the Peculiar Clown and the Snake-Charmer Girl. Eventually they would find the Peculiar Archives and Balenciaga Wren, an ymbryne who is helping the London peculiars. Alma Peregrine's wards immediately tell Miss Wren about how "Miss Peregrine" was trapped in her bird form, with no one knowing that it was actually Caul, Alma's older brother. Miss Wren immediately takes the bird to start healing it.

The Peculiar Clown and Sergei Andropov tries to get the group to join their resistance, which none of them want to do. As the clown goes through the children's powers, he comes to the Bone Brothers and pulls them apart, despite warnings from Melina. The separation greatly distresses the brothers, causing them to let out a powerful scream that shatters the dishes and possibly cracks the building's ice.

After Caul is revealed, he takes everyone hostage, including the brothers, and the peculiars are forced to go with the wights into the present. They would be taken to a London subway to be shipped to Devil's Acre. Bronwyn Bruntley, in an attempt to distract the wights and help everyone escape, slaps Joel-and-Peter and tears Peter-and-Joel away from his brother. Their sonic scream breaks the train's glass and gives enough time for Addison MacHenry to pull Emma and Jacob away from the group. Everyone else remains captured by the wights.

Eyes in the dark

Emma and Jacob recognise the brothers along with Melina having their souls drained and in terrible pain, though they are trying to fight it. Jacob pulls the needle from Melina's foot, but before he can continue onto the Bone Brothers they are interrupted by another peculiar (evidently insane) saying hello. The brothers were likely rescued after the fall of the Wights' Fortress tower.

Description[]

Appearance[]

They are two young boys who constantly keep their arms linked. They have deathly pale skin and spinning, black-circled eyes.

Peculiarity[]

The Bone Brothers are echolocators like dolphins and bats, using different types of clicks and other noises to identify things in the dark. They also have super strong vocal cords that can shatter glass, though they only scream when they are separated. Also, the two share a mental bond, a bit like telepathy, and always finish each other's sentences flawlessly. They seem to believe that they are one being, and might be one mind in two bodies.
