The Old Man is the main attraction in Cairnholm's museum. He was found in a bog, discovered by turf cutters digging for peat.
Discovery[]
According to Martin Pagett, the Old Man was found in the 1970's by turf cutters digging for peat. Because the body looked so fresh, the diggers thought that there was a murderer loose in Cairnholm, however, upon further examination, the idea was dismissed when a Stone Age bow was found in his hand and a noose of human hair was discovered around his neck.
Cause of Death[]
Aside from strangulation from the noose, the Old Man also was killed from drowning, disembowelment, and a blow to the head. The reason this was done to him may have human sacrifice.
Trivia[]
- Human hair was not used as a noose generally during the Stone Age.
